Where Can I Locum?

If you’re a Queensland Health employee, you cannot locum in any other Queensland Health hospital. You can work in Queensland private hospitals as well as public and private hospitals in all other Australian states and territories.

NSW Health employees need permission from the hospital CEO in which they work to locum for NSW Health public hospitals.

When Can I Locum?

As soon as you have your general Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Medical Board registration, we can connect you with our clients for locum work.

What Paperwork do I Need to Complete?

You’ll need to complete and return our registration paperwork before we can help you find a locum placement or shift. Our friendly staff will help you throughout the process to make sure you don’t feel overwhelmed.

STEP ONE:

Talk with our consultants to help us understand what work you’re interested in. This helps us identify what paperwork is necessary for you to complete.

STEP TWO:

You’ll need to supply us with the following documentation as part of our standard registration process:

  • A current, complete up-to-date CV.
  • A certified justice of the peace copy of your driver’s licence and passport.
  • Three referee names. One must be a current supervisor. The other two must be senior doctors you have worked with in the past six months.
  • National police clearance.
  • A copy of your medical degree.
  • Immunisation evidence.
  • A copy of your professional indemnity insurance confirmation certificate.
STEP THREE:

We’ll help you complete any additional paperwork required for your specific placement.

STEP FOUR:

Some hospitals will also have their own paperwork which you’ll receive after your placement and shift have been confirmed.

Helpful videos: National police clearance and NSW Working with Children check.

Will Travel & Accommodation Be Provided?

In most locum placements and shifts, travel and accommodation are provided. Some Dr Oncall clients provide a capped travel allowance, while others provide accommodation only. Some clients will also provide family accommodation. Please confirm your needs when first registering with Dr Oncall so we can focus on finding you work to suit your requirements.
