Dr Oncall provides personalised recruitment services specifically for doctors. We’re a locum agency founded and run by three doctors who consult in their chosen field of medicine, which means we understand the realities of clinical work, on-call pressures, and the balance between career and lifestyle.
From your first placement through to long-term locum work, you’re supported by a team that knows what it’s like to be in your shoes and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when you need us.

We understand what’s really involved in stepping into a new placement, and how important it is that the details are handled properly. Our team takes care of the process from start to finish, cutting down the admin and making sure you’re offered well-supported roles that fit the way you want to work. Here’s what we take care of for you:
We work with doctors across many areas of the medical industry and place locums into roles that suit their experience and the settings they prefer. Our placements include public and private hospitals across the following specialties:
Locum work rarely fits into standard business hours, and support shouldn’t stop once the day ends. Shifts can change with little notice, travel plans sometimes need adjusting, and questions often come up while you’re already on placement, particularly when working away from familiar settings.
Our team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so help is accessible whenever it’s needed. If something changes late at night, early in the morning, or over a weekend, you can speak directly with people who understand clinical environments and are used to responding quickly and calmly.
Do you know someone who isn’t registered with Dr Oncall and is considering locum work? Our referral program is a simple way to help them get started.
When your referral completes their first shift with Dr Oncall, you’ll be eligible for a $500 Westfield Gift Voucher as a thank you.
It’s an easy way to support a colleague and be rewarded at the same time.

Where you can undertake locum work depends on your current employment arrangements.
If you’re employed by Queensland Health, you are generally not engaged as a locum medical officer within other Queensland Health public hospitals, except in limited circumstances where there are exceptional workforce needs. This restriction does not prevent you from undertaking locum work in Queensland private hospitals, or in public and private hospitals in other Australian states and territories.
You can find more information here.
If you’re employed by NSW Health, approval from your employing hospital is required before undertaking locum work within NSW Health public hospitals. This is managed as secondary employment and must be documented prior to placement. Our team can guide you through what’s required.

You can begin locum work once you hold general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). AHPRA registration is a legal requirement to practise medicine in Australia, including locum roles.
Once your registration is in place, we can begin discussing suitable opportunities and progress placements as they become available.
Talk with our consultants to help us understand what work you’re interested in. This helps us identify what paperwork is necessary for you to complete.
You’ll need to supply us with the following documentation as part of our standard registration process:
We’ll help you complete any additional paperwork required for your specific placement.
Some hospitals will also have their own paperwork which you’ll receive after your placement and shift have been confirmed.
Yes. Locum work is flexible, and how often you accept shifts is entirely up to you. Some doctors work regularly throughout the year, while others take on occasional placements around existing roles, leave, or study commitments. We’ll discuss your availability so opportunities match what you’re looking for.
